In New Internationalist, Mary Assunta(2004) has reported that Asian smokers inhale about 50 per cent of the world's cigarettes.Dr. Zarihah Zain(2007) reported that the percentage of male smokers consists of 46.4% of its population in Malaysia, followed by 1.6% of female smokers. Cigarette smoking is leading preventable cause of death and illness among Malaysians as it claims 10,000 lives a year and is the country's top killer. The incidence of lung cancer is strongly correlated with cigarette smoking, with about 90% of lung cancers arising as a result of tobacco use. The risk of lung cancer increases with the number of cigarettes smoked and the time over which smoking has occurred.
